Williamson County Ranks Second in the Nation in Employment Growth

Williamson County has tied for the second largest percent increase in employment in the United States with a 3.9 percent gain from June 2018 to June 2019, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The largest increase in employment was Adams County, Colorado, with a gain of 5.3 percent. Williamson County tied with Richmond County, New York, and Utah County, Utah.

The industries that have the largest overall job increases were education and health services, leisure and hospitality, and construction.

The county, which includes parts of north Austin as well as Round Rock, Georgetown, and Cedar Park, also saw wage growth topping 5% in 2019, outpacing Travis County.

In a news release, County Judge Bill Gravell commented, “Williamson County’s economic development plan has been to bring more jobs here to our county for our residents, so they are not stuck in traffic during long commutes. It also has been to have a diversified work force. So, it is exciting to see that our young adults can find good employment opportunities here in a wide variety of career fields.”

Williamson County’s yearly employment growth has ranged from 2.9% to 4.7% over the past five years.
