Man and Woman Gunned Down in Austin’s St. John Neighborhood

Eight to ten men fled the scene of a shooting Feb. 17 in the St. John neighborhood in northeast Austin, leaving behind a dead woman and a man with a gunshot wound.

Police say that a group of eight to 10 Hispanic men were drinking in the parking lot at 7020 Grand Canyon Dr., an apartment complex, when an altercation occurred between two of the men and the female victim, Elvi Cervantes-De La Torre.

When police responded to a call at about 11:00 p.m., they found Cervantes-De La Torre dead on the scene, and her “male companion,” who was not named, who was transported to an area hospital where he remains in stable condition.

According to an APD homicide notice, “Following the shooting, the men split in to two groups. The first set got in to a maroon/reddish pick-up truck and the other into a black sedan-style vehicle. The vehicles left the scene together.”

APD is looking for the following suspected persons:

  • Approximately 5’5”
  • Estimated to be in his late-30s/early-40s
  • Chunky build
  • Trimmed beard
  • Last seen wearing a yellow construction vest, grey baseball cap, white and orange-striped shirt

Suspect #2

  • Hispanic male
  • Approximately 5’4”
  • Estimated to be in his mid-30s
  • Mustache
  • Beer belly
  • Last seen wearing a long-sleeve green shirt, light-colored jeans and a black baseball cap
