First Construction Contract Awarded Under Austin’s 2020 Mobility Bond

The Austin City Council has authorized the first construction contract to deliver projects funded by the 2020 Mobility Bond, a $460 million financing plan approved by 67 percent of voters.

The new construction contract enables more than 20 new and improved pedestrian crossings including at the Austin Community College Eastview campus and Nuckols Crossing Road.

This marks the beginning of a six-year implementation timeline for spending the bond funds, which are geared toward bikeways, sidewalks, transit enhancement, and urban trails.

A separate $482 million bond package approved by voters in 2016 is being used for the improvement of roadways. This year the city plans to spend around $150 million for work along nine major arterials, including North Lamar Boulevard, Slaughter Lane, Burnet Road and Riverside Drive.
